I've just ...I would like to ask you a question. I've just read Daphne DuMaurier's 1969 book, "The House on the Strand." In it, "the geld house" is mentioned. Can you describe this for me? I've Googled it, but haven't come up with an exact description. I'm guessing it was rather like a custom's house where taxes were collected and the local people brought their tax money for it to be registered and counted etc. Am I right?
